A jury will decide whether former Victorian police officer Timothy Baker is guilty of murder.

A Supreme Court jury has begun deliberating its verdict in the trial of a former police officer accused of murdering a motorist he shot three times in Melbourne.

Former Leading Senior Constable Timothy Baker, 46, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Vlado Micetic, 44, during a traffic stop at Windsor on August 25, 2013.

Baker shot Mr Micetic in the chest, abdomen and buttock, but claims he was acting in self-defence because the motorist, who he said looked "crazed", had pulled a knife.
