Aquatic Centre preparation works close to completion

By Corowa Free Press

With the Corowa Aquatic Centre Design and Construction Tender awarded at the October Federation Council meeting, site preparation works to ensure the site is ready for construction are well advanced.

These works include the demolition of the old 50m pool, wading and intermediate pools, along with the demolition of the old administration and amenities building.

Other service works include the reconfiguration, upgrade, and relocation of a council water and sewer mains, and power supply to the site.

Federation Mayor, Councillor Patrick Bourke said, “It’s terrific to see that the demolition works are now completed, and the site is fast becoming prepared for the head contractor, Hines Constructions, to arrive and commence work early next year.

“With the works to replace the council water and sewer main and power supply also complete, this will ensure a safe, reliable and improved water and power supply is available to both the pool and the new Ball Park Multisport Pavilion site, located next to the Corowa Aquatic Centre.

“Council has also undertaken further earthworks on site to ensure, with the removal of the old 50m pool, that an adequately prepared base for the new competition standard 50m pool is available for it to be constructed upon.

“This work has been done in conjunction with Cardno Consulting, a National specialist consulting firm with recognized expertise in geotechnical and structural engineering.  It is exciting to now look in and see the blank canvas, knowing it is not far away until we turn the soil for the amazing new complex,” he said.

Construction of the new facility is expected to commence in early 2020, following the completion of final detailed design, and receipt of the development approval.
